Set up ticket types

Create free or paid tickets with custom pricing and capacity limits.

Create ticket types to define what attendees can register for. You need at least one to publish your event.

Free vs. Paid

Free tickets - Anyone can register without paying. Perfect for open meetups or community events.

Paid tickets - Attendees pay a price you set. Great for workshops, conferences, or premium events.

You can mix both free and paid tickets in the same event—for example, "General admission" (free) and "VIP" (paid).

Create a ticket type

  1. Go to your event and click Tickets
  2. Click Add ticket type
  3. Fill in:

- Name - E.g., "General admission," "Early bird," "VIP"

- Price - Free or any amount (for paid tickets)

- Capacity - How many spots available? Leave blank for unlimited

- Description (optional) - What's included? What's the difference from other types?

Multiple ticket types

You can offer different options:

  • Early bird - Lower price, limited quantity
  • Regular - Standard price
  • VIP - Higher price with perks (if applicable)
  • Student - Discounted price with code verification

Each type can have its own price and capacity.

Ticket access controls

Control who can access each ticket type using gating rules:

  • Open to everyone - Anyone can buy this ticket
  • Access code required - Only people with a specific code can see and purchase
  • Members only - Restrict to community members or specific membership tiers
  • Requires approval - Registrations need your approval before they're confirmed

Set pricing

For paid tickets, Eventship uses Stripe. You'll need to connect your Stripe account to receive payouts.

Choose how fees are handled:

  • Attendee pays fees - Fees are added on top of your ticket price at checkout
  • Host absorbs fees - You cover the fees, so attendees pay exactly the listed price

Set prices that work for you:

  • Include all costs (venue, speaker fees, etc.)
  • Keep it simple—people appreciate clear pricing

Ticket capacity

Set a limit on how many people can buy each ticket type. Once the limit is reached:

  • That ticket type shows as sold out (or shows a waitlist badge if the waitlist is enabled)
  • People can still register for other available types
  • You can increase the capacity anytime—waitlisted people are automatically promoted

Leave capacity blank for unlimited tickets.

Waitlist

When a ticket sells out, the waitlist lets people queue up for a spot. It's enabled by default on all ticket types.

  • When someone cancels or you increase capacity, the next person in line is automatically confirmed
  • For paid tickets, payment is authorized when joining but only charged on promotion
  • You can set a waitlist capacity or disable it entirely per ticket type

See Waitlist for full details.

Tips

  • Test your ticket setup on a draft event before publishing
  • Keep ticket names simple and descriptive
  • If you're charging, make sure your Stripe account is connected
  • You can edit ticket names and descriptions after publishing
  • You can't change a ticket from free to paid after people buy it
