“Textile paintings, a journey through an interdisciplinary practice” Lecture by Oslyn Whizar

This artist lecture invites audiences into the creative world of Oslyn Whizar, a textile artist working along the vibrant Tijuana–San Diego border. With over two decades of experience, Whizar will trace a non-linear projection of her work, guided not by chronology but by the parameters of color, texture, and shape. She will reflect on her beginnings as a painter and the pivotal moment when her practice shifted toward textiles, exploring the unique qualities that distinguish and connect the two mediums. Through this lens, she will share how her artistic journey expanded into a multidisciplinary practice that now embraces jewelry, styling, and ceramics, weaving together diverse forms of making. By presenting her work through these interwoven pathways, Whizar offers insight into how experimentation, materiality, and borderland perspectives have shaped her artistic language, inviting audiences to experience the interconnected threads of her creative practice. Lecture: Saturday, September 20th at 1 P.M. Exhibit: On Display from September 10th through October 25th, 2025 Photo: Courtesy of Oslyn Whizar, Pure energy, 2025
