Mirisata · 2420 SE Belmont St, Portland, OR 97214, USA
Hosted by Indian Food Explorations

For the next in the series of 'India's Neighbors', let's go eat some Sri Lankan food. I've been to Mirisata a couple times and they've really upped their game, both in terms of food as well as their outdoor seating. I'm excited for you to check 'em out. Sri Lanka is just South of India and is an Island nation. I visited Sri Lanka in 2018 and it felt like what it might be like being back in India in the 1920s. Very green, minimal western influence, all their food was fresh and grown locally within 25 miles of where it was served. Their food has lots of coconut flavors and has similarities to Southern Indian food. FROM MIRISATA "Mirisata loosely translates from Sinhala to "spicy curry." Not everything we serve is spicy, but it is bursting with flavor and unlike anything else you can find in Portland. Our food is 100% vegan and much of it is gluten-free. We're structured as a worker-owned cooperative, currently with nine members: Ro, Alex, Padhma, Anura, Ihan, Theo, Jose, Cassandra, and Cyrus. All our workers have the opportunity to become owners. Four of the nine current worker-owners are Sri Lankan and bring family traditions and recipes to the kitchen, but we do not have a "head chef" like most restaurants. The food we serve is the end product of our collaboration and we're always thrilled to share it with our customers." TO JOIN $5 ticket fee covers cost of planning and hosting. Budget about $25 a person for food and drinks. We can order family style or order your own. Bike or carpool if possible for additional social time + saving gas.
