You built it yourself. That is a huge accomplishment. But at some point you may need help. Maybe you want to bring in a developer to add a complex feature. This session teaches you how to prepare your project for collaboration and handoff. You will learn what developers need to get up to speed, how to document your project, and how to keep contributing even after a professional engineer is involved. What You Will Learn • What developers need from you. The information, documentation, and project structure that makes a developer's job easier and your handoff smoother. • Writing a project README. The single document that tells anyone picking up your project what it does, how to run it, and where things are. • Code organization. How to clean up your project structure so it follows conventions that other developers expect. • Working alongside a developer. How to continue contributing through AI tools while a professional handles the complex parts. You do not have to stop building just because you hired help. • What to look for when hiring technical help. How to evaluate developers, what to ask for in proposals, and how to avoid common mistakes when outsourcing. What You Will Walk Away With • A project README and basic documentation for your codebase. • A clean project structure that follows standard conventions. • A handoff checklist you can use whenever you bring someone new into a project. • Confidence to keep building alongside technical collaborators. Prerequisites This session assumes you have some experience building with AI coding tools. You will get the most out of it if: • You have a working project that you may want to share or hand off to a developer. • Helpful: version control (Session 3) and deployment (Session 9) make handoff much smoother. About the Facilitator Todd Bashor is the founder of Founder Guide and has 25 years of experience building and scaling software products at ServiceNow, FICO, and Intuit. He co-founded NewRocket in 2017 and led it through hypergrowth to acquisition in 2022. He now works with early-stage founders on product validation, traction, and go-to-market strategy.
