How location works

Eventship shows you events based on where you are right now, not where you live. We figure out your location using:

  • Your browser's location (if you allow it)
  • Your IP address as a backup

This way, you see events happening locally—whether you're at home or traveling.

Virtual and online events

Online events show up no matter where you are — they're not tied to your city. The Discover page has three filter modes:

  • Nearby — in-person events within a distance radius of you
  • Online — virtual events only, from hosts anywhere in the world
  • All (default) — nearby in-person events plus every upcoming online event

So if a host in another city publishes a virtual event, you'll still see it on Discover and in your weekly digest email.

Filter by category

Narrow down results by event type:

  • Event names ("Tech Summit 2026")
  • Host names ("Local Meetup Group")
  • Topics or keywords

Follow hosts

Love a particular host or organizer? Follow them:

  1. Go to their event page
  2. Click Follow on their host profile
  3. You'll get notified when they create new events
